Our Mission The Diocese of Grand Island Child Protection Office was established in 2005 with its mission to carry out the Church's "Promise to Protect" children and youth and "Pledge to Heal" those victimized by sexual abuse. It is our mission to create a culture of protection and healing throughout the diocese; promoting right relationships, preventing abuse, and offering healing and support. The office directs Victim Assistance Ministry and Safe Environment Programs for the Diocese of Grand Island. Through Victim Assistance Ministry we serve as the first point of contact for individuals who have experienced abuse by someone in the Church. In addition, we provide referrals and resources to promote healing. Our Safe Environment Program helps to create a culture of protection by educating children and youth and training adults in right relationship concepts and abuse prevention strategies. We help to insure a safe environment by screening all adults who work with children and youth, enforcing a code of conduct, and implementing safe environment strategies. We serve as a resource to diocesan parishes, schools, and programs.
